An organisation chart can accidentally create intimacy; office friends learn versions of us some relatives never meet.

You did not choose them. A seating plan did. And yet they have seen you handle a bad quarter, a worse manager and a genuinely upsetting Tuesday.

They know the version of you that exists between nine and seven, which is a version several people who love you have never met.

Then somebody changes jobs and the whole friendship discovers it was partly architectural.

This one is deliberately unfinished. Add the office friend who outlived the office. The good lines get built into the longer piece.
